In many cases, it should be the first content marketing campaign a business undertakes. Here are three great reasons why you should invest in a well-thought-out FAQ section:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>It can reduce support costs and customer service hours.<\/li>\n<li>It can <strong>attract qualified buyers and\/or potential customers<\/strong> to your website.<\/li>\n<li>It can provide a great employee resource, which can reduce confusion and inefficient communication.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>But let&#8217;s first start with the <em>wrong way<\/em> to make an FAQ section.<\/p>\n<h2>Don\u2019t Make Your FAQ One Page<\/h2>\n<p>That means one webpage with short answers. Nope. Don\u2019t do that. Below is an example of what not to do:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1059\" height=\"607\" src=\"http:\/\/judinc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/medicaid-faq-section.png\" alt=\"medicaid.gov FAQ Section\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-803\" srcset=\"https:\/\/judinc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/medicaid-faq-section.png 1059w, https:\/\/judinc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/medicaid-faq-section-300x172.png 300w, https:\/\/judinc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/medicaid-faq-section-768x440.png 768w, https:\/\/judinc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/medicaid-faq-section-1024x587.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1059px) 100vw, 1059px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicaid.gov\/faq\/index.html\">FAQ section of Medicaid.gov<\/a>. As you can see, they&#8217;ve answered each question on the same webpage. <em>And the answers aren&#8217;t that detailed either<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The reason you don&#8217;t want to make your FAQ section one page is you&#8217;re going to lose out on a lot of good search engine traffic using one webpage. What you want to do is <strong>break out each question and corresponding answer into its own webpage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>That means create a <b>unique URL<\/b> for each FAQ question. Dedicate an entire webpage to answering the question as thoroughly as possible. Use images (or screenshots) and video if you can. This is what you get when you click through to the answer:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1147\" height=\"711\" src=\"http:\/\/judinc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/sketch-faq-in-more-detail.png\" alt=\"sketch FAQ answer in more detail\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-818\" srcset=\"https:\/\/judinc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/sketch-faq-in-more-detail.png 1147w, https:\/\/judinc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/sketch-faq-in-more-detail-300x186.png 300w, https:\/\/judinc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/sketch-faq-in-more-detail-768x476.png 768w, https:\/\/judinc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/sketch-faq-in-more-detail-1024x635.png 1024w, https:\/\/judinc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/sketch-faq-in-more-detail-825x510.png 825w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1147px) 100vw, 1147px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And if you Google &#8220;How much does Sketch cost?&#8221; (in a private window), you&#8217;ll see that the page is the first page listed in the Google search results:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"816\" height=\"445\" src=\"http:\/\/judinc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/google-serp-sketch-cost.png\" alt=\"sketch in google search results\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-821\" srcset=\"https:\/\/judinc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/google-serp-sketch-cost.png 816w, https:\/\/judinc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/google-serp-sketch-cost-300x164.png 300w, https:\/\/judinc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/google-serp-sketch-cost-768x419.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 816px) 100vw, 816px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As you can see, for a lot of questions your customers may have, this FAQ structure we\u2019re recommending will keep them from having to do a lot of hunting :).<\/p>\n<h2>What About Blog Content That Serves as FAQ Material?<\/h2>\n<p>This is a very natural thing to happen. A lot of times, blog articles serve as good FAQ content. In this case, you can simply link to these blog articles from your main FAQ webpage.<\/p>\n<h2>Does the URL Structure Matter?<\/h2>\n<p>Not really. However, it&#8217;s a good idea to make &#8220;friendly&#8221; URLs. For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>https:\/\/pet-monkey-website.com\/how-much-is-a-pet-monkey<\/li>\n<li>https:\/\/pet-monkey-website.com\/is-owning-a-pet-monkey-dangerous<\/li>\n<li>https:\/\/pet-monkey-website.com\/can-i-return-my-pet-monkey<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These example URLs are human friendly. They are easy to read and instill trust in the searcher. This is generally the best approach when it comes to crafting any URLs for that matter. However, sometimes your content management system or website just wasn\u2019t set up for friendly URLs. It\u2019s usually a bad idea to try to change your URL structure for purely aesthetic reasons. You\u2019ll end up hurting your search engine optimization for your entire website (unless a professional SEO aids you along the way).<\/p>\n<h2>How Do You Come Up with FAQs?s?<\/h2>\n<p>Besides creating pages from the top of your head (which isn&#8217;t a bad place to start), you can always collect FAQs from:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clerks, support staff, customer service reps &#8211; the people on the front lines are always getting bombarded with questions.<\/li>\n<li>Your sales team! Talking with them at any time is a great idea.<\/li>\n<li>Website feedback tools like <a href=\"https:\/\/qualaroo.com\/\">Qualaroo<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/\">Survey Monkey<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To take this further, collecting visitor and customer feedback continuously is certainly a good practice. Having feedback is key to improving any business. Consider putting a system in place if you don\u2019t already have one.<\/p>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>If you don\u2019t have time to build out a massive FAQ section, it\u2019s OK to start off with a one-page section. It\u2019s better than nothing. The answers will most likely get indexed by the search engines and will help humans as well.<\/p>\n<p>However, you should plan on expanding your FAQ section into more detailed individual pages.
